Today you finished the “L” in the KWL worksheet and created a calendar and plan for your work this week. You are working this entire week on the group project. The projects are due on Tuesday, no exceptions. We will begin our presentations then.

Today we began going over the quarter exam. We are going to continue with this tomorrow.
Tuesday
We discussed tone today and I explained that the starred words will be on the Tone Word Test which is Wednesday, November 18th.
Wednesday
Today we worked on a brainstorm for your papers.

19th
Today I explained your group research project assignment and gave you the assignment sheet. In a group you filled out the K and W of a KWL worksheet based on your assigned topic. We will be in the library all this week researching.
20th-22nd
In the library doing research.
Your 5W’s and How worksheet is due at the end of the period on the 22nd. The more information you have the better.
This weekend you should start thinking about what you want to do for your individual project. You will have class time to work the project next week, so bring any supplies that you might want.

19th – 21st
We reviewed for the quarter exam. The quarter exam will be 30 questions based on two passages. You will have the entire period to complete the exam. The questions will cover the rhetorical vocabulary and strategies we have discussed this quarter.
On Wednesday I explained the next formal paper for this class. You will be writing an extended definition paper on a term or concept of your choice. See me for the assignment sheet. For next Wednesday you need to have 3 sentences: A formal definition, operational definition, and definition by exmaple for your word.

Today we went over the Webquest.
Homework: Read “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” for Thursday. If you are here tomorrow, you will have time to read in class.
14th
Time to read in class.
15th
We discussed “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” and answered multiple choice questions based on it.
Your Synthesis prompts and the rest of Chapter 7 Vocab. are due tomorrow!
16th
Today we looked at a few sample synthesis prompts and the way they used sources. We also tried to find cliches in a picture from a magazine.

Today we discussed TEA more in depth and worked on our papers.
Rough Drafts are due tomorrow!!
14th
We peer edited in class. You MUST turn a peer edit in with your final draft, so if you did not finish today you need to find time on your own to get the editing finished.
15th
We were in the computer lab typing our final drafts.
16th
Today you turned in your Odyssey papers and we had a debate on whether or not the Odyssey should be a required part of the freshmen English curriculum. Every single class voted to keep the Odyssey!

Monday
We discussed new type of syntax and parallelism.

Tuesday
With a partner you filled out a syntax analysis sheet on a paragraph from “Rainy Mountain”
Wednesday
We continued our discussion of syntax by listening to and discussion a speech given by JFK.
Thursday
We discussed diction
HW: Finish Chapter 6 Vocab.
Friday
We were in the lab working on a webquest. Whatever you don’t finish is homework, along with the 1st 10 of Chapter 7 vocab.

October 5th
Today we finished reading the Odyssey and watching the movie. We also completed our study guide. I explained the test as well. It is all short answer except for one essay question. The short answer questions are on: The Hero’s Journey, the Epic, Literary Techniques, and the story of the Odyssey.
October 6th
Today we took the state writing test.
October 7th
Today we reviewed for The Odyssey test TOMORROW!
October 8th
Today we are taking the Odyssey test.
October 9th
Today I am explaining the Odyssey paper and TEA Format, and you will have time to work on beginning your outline. The outline of the paper is due Tuesday the 13th. Rough draft is due the 14th.

Today we read Book 12 of the Odyssey and worked on the study guide.

Today we read “Penelope” and “The Challenge” in the other textbooks. We worked on the study guide.

We watched the Odyssey movie. The test will be next Thursday.
